Salt Lick golf course moves ahead

PLANNING ZONING

Discovery Land Company presented intent to move forward with their plan for its private 18-hole golf course, during the July 24 Dripping Springs Planning and Zoning (P&Z) meeting. The course will be located in the city’s extraterritorial jurisdiction on 522.429 acres around the Salt Lick in Driftwood, and will use city treated wastewater.

This proposed development agreement is for a tract of land located southeast of the intersection of FM 1826 and FM 967, and West Brangus Road. The city previously approved Phase One of the golf course site development on July 10.

The plan calls for the golf course to use treated waste water from the West Travis County Public Utility Agency. A 15 million gallon pond on the property will store the water.

While there was no concerted public opposition at the P & Z meeting, as there had been at a previous meeting, some residents did have questions before the committee. Driftwood resident Tom Schneider expressed concerns. “I submitted questions to the city secretary addressing concerns over water quality, fence lines, road setbacks, and traffic access,” Schneider said. His property shares a northern property line with the proposed golf course.

Schneider’s concerns were addressed by P&Z Chairman Mim James. “I expect the developer to meet with interested Driftwood residents to clarify their concerns before asking P&Z to approve further recommendations at our next meeting,” James said.

No action was taken at the P&Z meeting.

Discovery Land Company builds luxury private club communities from California to New York, Maui Hawaii to the Bahamas. It is co-existing with the immense “Driftwood Project,” which is a development project overseen by Salt Lick BBQ owner Scott Roberts.

P&Z meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m., at City Hall located at 511 Mercer Street. For schedules and itineraries, visit cityofdrippingsprings.com.
