Patriots’ Hall announces McKean as executive director

Patriots’ Hall of Dripping Springs, a 10-acre campus providing services and resources to Central Texas veterans and their families, has announced the hiring of retired Lieutenant General Scott McKean as the organization’s executive director.

The Patriots’ Hall board of directors conducted an extensive search and said they selected McKean because of his vast leadership experience, extraordinary commitment to service and passion for assisting Central Texas Veterans. McKean assumed leadership on March 15.

“Scott McKean is an extraordinary person, soldier and leader,” explained board president Kathryn Chandler. “We are honored for Scott to lead our organization into the future as we complete construction of Patriots’ Hall and begin serving veterans within our community who have sacrificed so much for all of us. With Scott’s help, we will do our part to repay their sacrifices by offering the services and resources they need.”

Lieutenant General McKean commissioned in 1990, as an armor officer from the United States Military Academy at West Point. He served more than 33 years in the United States Army and led at every level from platoon to division command. He deployed to Iraq five times between 2003 and 2017. He also served three tours in Korea. During his career, Scott and his family were stationed throughout Texas, including Fort Cavazos (formerly Fort Hood) in Killeen, Fort Bliss in El Paso, and Army Futures Command in Austin.

Lieutenant General McKean and his wife, Kim, have been married for over 30 years, and they reside locally in Dripping Springs. They have two children and two grandkids.

“It’s truly been an honor and privilege to serve our country during a period of continual conflict,” McKean said. “I have seen firsthand the toll that war has had on service members and their families. I can think of no better cause to support in retirement than continuing to serve our veterans and their families. I strongly believe Patriots’ Hall will provide a venue to enable veterans and their spouses to grow and thrive in our communities.”

Patriots’ Hall is currently in the final phase of construction. The 10-acre campus features a 7,100-square -foot, multipurpose facility capable of hosting events and other veteran support organizations. The Hall is scheduled to begin serving veterans this summer and plans to offer a variety of services and resources to veterans including basic needs, education, VA benefits assistance, mental health, physical health and transition services.

The organization is actively seeking veterans and military families in the local community interested in volunteering to assist other veterans through the Patriots’ Hall Community Ambassador Program. More information can be found at patriotshall. org/ambassadors.
