Mercer Street serves as production site for "Walker, Texas Ranger" re-boot

On March 17th, Mercer Street was abuzz with film crews and production staff for the CW’s TV series, “Walker”, which is a reimagining of the longrunning series "Walker, Texas Ranger". "Walker", starring Jared Padalecki, follows the adventures of Cordell Walker, a widower and father of two with his own moral code, as he returns home to Austin after being undercover for two years. The film company, Eye Productions, filmed in historic downtown Dripping Springs including Hudson’s on Mercer and Rippy Ranch Supply.

Chris Cantu-Salazar, the location scout for EYE PRODUCTIONS Inc. said, “the local community was most hospitable and welcoming. Chad Hudson is a great host and wonderful to work with. Dale over at Rippy’s was amazing with his helpfulness. He really was responsible for keeping our footprint on the street to a minimum. I love the town of Dripping Springs and even several of the crew members, also Dripping Springs residents, expressed their gratitude for being able to film in such a great little area.”

The company pledged the TV Series will bring to the area more than $17-million in wages alone and about $5 million in additional spending, according to Mindy Raymond with The Texas Motion Pictures Alliance. Raymond continued to explain in an interview with NewsRadio KLBJ 590 that the production will have a big ripple effect on the local economy by way of coffee shops, restaurants, hotel rooms, and more.

Dripping Springs was certified as a Film Friendly community in 2018, by the Governor’s Texas Film Commission. The Film Friendly Texas Program is a certification and marketing program administered by the Texas Film Commission. Film Friendly Texas Certified Communities receive ongoing training and guidance from the Texas Film Commission regarding media industry standards, best practices, and how to effectively accommodate on-location filming activity in their community.

Property owners interested in listing their property on the Texas filming database can find out more information on the Film Friendly website, gov.texas.gov/film, or email [email protected].

The mission of the Dripping Springs Visitors Bureau is to promote tourism and serve as ambassadors to connect visitors-guests and the community.
