PROVIDED BY THE HAYS COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE.

Hays County Sheriff 's Office hosts Junior Deputy Days

The Hays County Sheriff's Office held the first of its Junior Deputy Days for 2023 last week.

There will be two separate Junior Deputy Academies, one on the west side of Hays County and one on the east side of the county. The academies run Tuesday through Thursday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

The east academy took place June 27 through 29 at Barton Middle School in Buda. The west academy will take place July 18 through 20 at Dripping Springs High School in Dripping Springs.

The deadline for the west academy is July 7. At the academy, members of the Sheriff’s Office introduce the cadets to various functions of law enforcement — including patrol, SWAT, crisis negotiation, criminal investigations, crime scene, K9 unit and community services. Other first responders, such as the Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services, are also on hand to demonstrate their services and related equipment.

At the completion of the academy, the cadets will have a special graduation ceremony which everyone is invited to attend.

The Junior Deputy Academy is open to all children between the ages of 8–10 who reside in Hays County. Applications are available on the Sheriff’s Office website at hayscountytx.com/law enforcement/sheriff.
