Gaither receives PEC scholarship

"Gaither was one of forty 2019 scholarships announced..."

Hanna Gaither, a student at Dripping Springs High School, received a $2,500 scholarship from Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC).

Gaither was one of forty 2019 scholarships announced at a PEC reception on April 25 at the cooperative’s Johnson City Headquarters. Area students received a total of $120,000 in awards ranging from $2,500 to $10,000.Recipients were selected from nearly 330 applications by a panel of independent judges based on their applicant profiles, including academic performance, community involvement, extracurricular activities, and financial need. Applicants also submitted an essay in which they identified how a PEC scholarship would help them achieve their educational and career goals.

“PEC’s scholarship program is just one of the many ways the cooperative seeks to support local students,” said Celeste Mikeska, PEC’s youth engagement representative. “We are proud to play a small role in these young members’ lives as they continue their education after high school graduation, and know they will embrace the cooperative spirit by giving back to their own communities one day.”

PEC has supported local students through its scholarship program for two decades. By supporting future Hill Country leaders, the program illustrates PEC’s commitment to the cooperative principle “concern for communities.”

PEC scholarships can be used to pay expenses at any accredited university, college, junior college, technical school, or trade school. To learn more about PEC’s scholarship program, visit pec.coop/scholarship.
