The Friends Foundation host online auction for its 27 th annual fundraiser

The Friends Foundation Host an Online Auction for its 27 th Annual Fundraiser

The COVID-19 virus hasn’t stopped The Friends Foundation from helping the elderly during the pandemic but it has prevented the Foundation from having its annual BBQ fundraiser at the Salt Lick Pavilion as has been done for some 26 years with BBQ, live music, local libations, and silent and live auctions.

“Our annual fundraiser is a necessity as expenses continue in providing our programs and services improving the quality of life for the elderly in Dripping Springs,” said President Kathy Carriker. The decision by our board to hold an online auction was made as an abundance of caution for the health and safety of our supporters and our community.

The auction kicks off on September 21st with 100 Gold tickets being sold for $100 each. Only 100 tickets will be sold but there is no limit on the number of tickets that can be purchased by an individual. Ticket sales will end on October 1 at 10 a.m. or when 100 tickets are sold. An electronic drawing will determine the Gold Ticket winner who will have their choice of one Feature item before the online auction bidding begins. Go to thefriendsfoundation.org beginning September 21st at 8 a.m. to sign in to register for Gold ticket sales and preview the Featured items.

Featured items the Gold Ticket winner can choose from include: 1) a 5 day 4 night stay in a private mountain home in Alto, New Mexico, 2) a private collection of locally found arrowheads and artifacts mounted and framed, 3) a professionally chauffeured door to door service for two to four guests for 5 hours from Discover Texas Wine Tours, with Rolling in Thyme & Dough gift certificates, 4) a 7 day 6 night stay in a lovely cottage for 4 located on a hill above the Shenandoah River in Front Royal, Virginia, 5) a Large Green Egg cooker and stand donated by Wilson’s Appliance, 6) Two consecutive night stay at Hillside Acres Retreat and tour of Texas Hill Country Olive Company, 7) Pig Pen BBQ Dinner for 20 & an hour long set by Hot Texas Swing Band Trio, 8) Hill Country Casitas consecutive 2 night stay & Hawk's Shadow Vineyards combo or 9) a Cub Cadet 46” Enduro Series Riding Mower from Tractor Supply.

The Gold ticket winner’s Feature item pick will be removed, and the remaining Feature items will be included with all auction items when bidding starts on Thursday, October 1 at 5 p.m. The auction will close at 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 8.

“Of course there would be no items to bid on if not for local businesses who have done their part and been so generous during these difficult times and we are so grateful for each of them and our Sponsors,” Carriker said.” Now it’s up to the community to bid on these auction items to help us.”

The Friends Foundation is a 501(c)(3) all volunteer non-profit organization. All proceeds from monies raised or donated are used to directly fund programs and services in the greater Dripping Springs area for seniors 60 and over.

The Friends Foundation’s flagship program, Our Daily Bread is more important now than ever and has delivered more than 55,000 hot meals to the homebound elderly >since 2004. The meal services have continued without interruption since the pandemic began by acquiring PPE and using CDC best practices to assure volunteer drivers and clients remain safe. The Philips Lifeline program is serving more than 40 clients and provides a medical alert device to summon help in an emergency. The Financial Assistance program can provide funds for qualifying low-income seniors for various necessities.
