Free tax assistance with Dripping Springs Tax-Aide

The Dripping Springs Tax-Aide volunteers plan to be available for virtual tax help on Thursdays starting in mid-February. Tax-Aide is a nationwide program to do free tax returns, and Dripping Springs has been providing this assistance for over 30 years.

Anyone who has a cell phone can use our services. When you make an appointment, you will be advised about the best plan for you. All plans involve using Google Meet, which can be easily accessed on your cell phone or your computer. There are three options.

Low-Contact 2 Visit Plan.

With a cell phone and preferably email, you can pick up a packet, make an appointment to have it scanned while you wait in your car, talk to your tax preparer when contacted by Google Meet, and come back to the site parking lot to sign your return.

Low-Contact 1 Visit Plan.

But if you have a computer and printer, you can sign the return at home while the counselor witnesses your signature on Google Meet. You eliminate that last visit to the parking lot.

No-Contact Plan

If you also have the ability to scan your tax documents, everything can be handled via email and Google Meet.

Our free assistance with income tax preparation is available through DSISD Community Services, which is sponsoring the local Tax-Aide program. Our local tax assistance group is part of the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program. Each year, our volunteers are trained and certified by the IRS. Although AARP Foundation focuses on the needs of older taxpayers, the Tax-Aide program has no age limits. The local site will continue to provide assistance to taxpayers of all ages.

Tax-Aide assistance is limited to returns within the scope of the Tax-Aide training. Tax returns will be filed electronically. Tax-Aide has set up a very secure system of handling your tax information for this virtual system.
