EAA swears in new board members

The Edwards Aquifer Authority (EAA) swore in ten new board members last week. 

They included Carol Patterson, representing Bexar County/District 1; Abelardo A. Salinas III, Bexar County/District 3; Ron Ellis, Bexar County/District 5; Deborah Carington, Bexar County/District 6; Enrique Valdiva, Bexar County/ District 7; Kathleen Tobin Krueger, Comal County District 8; Ron Walton, Comal/ Guadalupe counties/District 9; Rachel Allyn Sanborn, Hays/Caldwell counties/ District 11; Luana Buckner, Medina/Atascosa counties/ District 13; and Rader Gilleland, Uvalde County/ District 15. U.S. Rep. Trey Martinez-Fischer administered the oath of office.

The EAA has a governing board composed of 15 directors elected from the single-member election districts and two non-voting appointed directors. The elected directors serve staggered four-year terms which expire December 1 of each even-numbered year.

About Edwards Aquifer Authority

The Edwards Aquifer Authority is a groundwater district, mandated by the 1993 Edwards Aquifer Authority Act. The Act grants all of the powers, rights, and privileges necessary to manage, conserve, preserve, and protect the aquifer. The EAA regulates the portion of the Balcones Fault Zone Edwards Aquifer – a jurisdictional area that provides water to over 2 million people, and covers more than 8,000 square miles across eight counties. These include all of Uvalde, Medina, and Bexar counties as well as parts of Atascosa, Caldwell, Guadalupe, Comal, and Hays counties. For more information visit www.edwardsaquifer.org.
