DSISD to make masks optional this week

At a special meeting May 20, the Dripping Springs Independent School District Board of Trustees unanimously approved a recommendation to make face masks optional in district facilities starting May 28. This decision comes following an Executive Order issued by Governor Abbott earlier this month stating that government entities, including school districts, can no longer require face masks in their facilities starting June 4. The board chose to implement this directive sooner, in advance of graduation and the start of summer school/camps.

Prior to making the recommendation, Superintendent Dr. Holly Morris-Kuentz reviewed the Governor’s Executive Order, staff survey data, local protocols and potential changes, updates on vaccinations, and recent protocol updates at other local districts.

Other safety protocols will remain in place this summer in DSISD facilities, including cleaning/ disinfecting practices and return-to-school timelines following an exposure or positive case.
