DSISD long range planning meeting

The DSISD Long-Range Facility Planning Committee held its second meeting of the year at Dripping Springs High School, on the evening of Feb. 21.

The main point discussed was how expanding high school student enrollment is expected to outpace current capacity. In  the  2025-26 school year, DSHS is projected to be at 120 percent capacity, despite a planned expansion which is expected to be completed in 2020.

At the meeting, Superintendent Bruce Gearing shared background information and research regarding school size and various options regarding high school models. Several guests from other Texas school districts talked about their experiences with various models that included both single high school ISDs and multiple high school ISDs.

In what may be a response to social media comments that the meeting was an initial effort by DSISD to create a new high school in a rushed fashion, the post-meeting DSISD press release said, “While last week's meeting was an initial discussion on this topic, the district will offer many opportunities over the next year or so for community conversation on this topic.”
