DSHS finishes 11th in UIL Lone Star Cup

In its inaugural class 6A season, Dripping Springs High School placed 11th out of more than 240 schools in the 2022-2023 UIL 6A Lone Star Cup standings with 60 points. DSHS placed the highest among the 21 schools who were new to class 6A.

The Lone Star Cup recognizes six Texas high schools, one in each of the six UIL classifications, based on their overall team achievement in the following sanctioned UIL academic, athletic and fine arts championships: team tennis, cross country, marching band, volleyball, robotics BEST, football, Congress, spirit, swimming and diving, wrestling, mariachi, film, basketball, robotics FIRST, soccer, academics, one-act play, theatrical design, track and field, golf, tennis, softball and baseball.

The Tiger volleyball team highlighted the athletic year for Dripping Springs by winning their third UIL state title with a 3-0 win over Katy’s Tompkins High School. The Tigers also advanced to the state championship game for the second consecutive season in boys’ soccer, narrowly falling 2-1 to Katy’s Seven Lakes High School in the title game. The Tiger football team also put together a deep playoff run by advancing to the state quarterfinals before losing 27-24 to eventual state runner-up Vandegrift High School.

The Tiger band, cheer squad, girls’ cross country and robotics teams qualified for their respective state competitions this season. In addition, girls’ soccer, softball and team tennis were postseason qualifiers.

Point totals for DSHS were as follows: volleyball (16), boys’ soccer (14), football (8), girls’ soccer (8), softball (6), marching band (4), team tennis (2), cheer (1) and robotics (1).

This year’s UIL Class 6A Lone Star Cup went to The Woodlands High School with 117 points, followed by Allen High School with 98 and Carroll High School with 90.
