Dripping Springs resident claims $1 million lottery prize

A Dripping Springs resident claimed a top prize winning ticket worth $1 million in the Texas Lottery scratch ticket game $1,000,000 Crossword. The ticket was purchased at H-E-B Food Store #611, located at 598 E. Highway 290, in Dripping Springs. The claimant elected to remain anonymous.

“I didn’t believe it,” the claimant told the Texas Lottery about the moment they realized they won. “I thought there was a mistake, because I couldn’t find the 10th word. My 10th word was ‘Aha.’ I called a friend to verify. I thought if I couldn’t find the 10th word, the prize would be $20,000 instead of $1 million – which would still have been a good prize.”

This lucky winner would know, as this wasn’t the first time they have won a Texas Lottery prize. “I won $20,000 in 2008 off another scratch-off,” the claimant said.

With the recent prize winnings, the claimant told the Texas Lottery that they plan to budget the money: “If I’m frugal, I should be able to live work-free for the rest of my life.”

This was the fifth of eight top prizes worth $1 million to be claimed in this game. $1,000,000 Crossword offers more than $289.2 million in total prizes. Overall odds of winning any prize in the game are one in 3.41, including break-even prizes.

Beginning with the first ticket sold in 1992, the Texas Lottery has generated $36.4 billion in revenue for the state and distributed $79.5 billion in prizes to lottery players. Since 1997, the Texas Lottery has contributed $30.4 billion to the Foundation School Fund, which supports public education in Texas. As authorized by the Texas Legislature, certain Texas Lottery revenues benefit state programs including the Fund for Veterans’ Assistance. Since the first veterans’ themed scratch ticket game was launched in 2009, the Texas Lottery has contributed more than $204 million for programs supporting Texas veterans.

The Texas Lottery provides several entertaining games for lottery players including Powerball, Mega Millions, Lotto Texas, All or Nothing™, Texas Two Step, Pick 3™, Daily 4™, Cash Five and scratch ticket games.
