DAR presents Community Service Award

The Sarah Pound Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution recently presented local resident Sally Beggs with the DAR Community Service Award.

This National Society Daughters of the American Revolution award is a non-competitive recognition to individuals and organizations for outstanding voluntary service.

For many years, Sally Beggs was a mainstay among volunteer organizations in the region, devoting her time and talents to helping people realize their potential. She devoted countless hours to Parent-Teacher Association involvement at Dripping Springs ISD, serving on several district campuses and Council of PTAs in multiple positions, including president.

Along with her commitment to PTA, she has been a mentor mom for “Moms of Minis” at her church. In 2015, Sally and her husband, Rich, formed Sally Bee’s Honey Company where they currently offer raw honey, natural beeswax products and ag exemption assistance. Drawing on her beekeeping expertise, Sally assisted in developing a course in beekeeping at Dripping Springs High School. In addition, she and her family hosted a Ukrainian refugee family, helping them assimilate to their new Texas surroundings. According to chapter member Mary Jane Hetrick, “Sally has a way of connecting people to ensure worthy projects actually get done, rather than just being wished for and discussed.”

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890 to preserve the memory and spirit of those who contributed to securing American independence. DAR chapters participate in projects to promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism. To learn more about the work of today’s DAR, visit dar.org.
