County proposes new roads in Dripping Springs

Public input sought on Dripping Springs Southwest Connection, other projects

The County is hosting three separate Virtual Open Houses to share information and collect input from the community for the Dripping Springs Southwest Connection Study, the Hillside Terrace Improvements Project, and the Windy Hill Road Project.

“Road safety continues to be a top priority for Hays County.” said Jerry Borcherding, Hays County Transportation Director. “The County is sharing information with the community and asking for input so we can continue to focus on transportation to improve mobility, safety, and connectivity in Hays County.”

The purpose of the Dripping Springs Southwest Connection study is to plan for current and future traffic levels; identify additional options to connect RM 150 to US 290 west of Dripping Springs; and identify the footprint and right of way needs. The study parameters will include minimizing impacts to property owners; providing a safe, direct route; and minimizing environmental impacts. Strategies will include following property lines and using segments of existing roadways.

The virtual events began Monday, March 22 and will run through Friday, April 9. The online Open Houses will allow area residents to be involved in sharing input on existing road conditions, travel needs, and proposed improvements where identified. The public can visit the project website links for open house videos and comment opportunities. Comments may be submitted through online comment forms, email, mail, or voicemail through the April 9 deadline.

Residents are asked to use the project-specific contact information to schedule an appointment, learn more about a project, see the project area maps, or to submit comments.

Once the public comment period ends, the county will develop preliminary alignment maps to be shared this summer. Another public meeting will then take place in the fall, and be followed by revisions and finalized plans for a presentation to commissioners by the end of the year.
