Camp Lucy to host second Christmas Chili Cook-Off

Chefs and chili aficionados compete while holiday cheer takes over the property

With the Christmas season just around the corner, local lodging and event centers are preparing to celebrate.

In line with this, Camp Lucy, a luxury resort in Dripping Springs, will soon host its second annual Christmas Chili Cook-Off. The event is scheduled to take place on Sunday, Dec. 4, from 3 to 6 p.m. The familyfriendly event will bring the holiday season to the Texas Hill Country’s fullscale luxury resort in the form of a culinary competition between skilled chefs and chili enthusiasts, who will all be cooking for a good cause.

Attendees can expect a sampling of chili galore, with food and alcoholic beverages (for adults) included in the ticket price. Guests will also enjoy live music from Shinglers, seasonal cocktails, photos with Santa with professional photographer Al Gawlik Photography and a holiday market with an ornament class led by Broad Clubhouse Studio.

The cook-off is in partnership with Nine Banded Whiskey and will benefit nonprofit Helping Hands, which provides the community of Dripping Springs with a framework of compassionate care designed to assist neighbors in times of need.

This year, the Christmas Chili Cook-Off will be hosted at Sacred Oaks, which is the part of a 289-acre property at Camp Lucy that features a stunning terraced outdoor ceremony site canopied by a grove of illuminated ancient oaks and lush great lawn. There will be a full bar located inside and outside, where Nine Banded Whiskey has created signature cocktails for the event and Twisted X will have curated brews.

The event’s holiday market will include stocking- stuffer shopping, the ornament making class and a S'mores station. Additional attractions and activities include a whiskey tasting, a hot chocolate bar, live music and a meet and greet with Santa. A special kids area will be designated outside on the lawn, where visitors can stroll by and find the chili contestants, cocktail tables and lawn games.

Participating chef partners include Robby Bauer (Tillie’s), Mike Vega (Camp Lucy), Jacob Hall (Hall’s Patio BBQ), Robert Alvarado (Treaty Oak), Daniel Barnes & Elias (Treaty Oak), Suzanne Knudson (Camp Dude BBQ), Lance Eaker (Eaker BBQ) and Ben McBride (Heritage Seafood).

For those looking to support the cause and get into the holiday spirit, tickets are $70 for those 21 and up and $45 for those under 21.
