Amplify Austin Day returns to Central Texas

I Live Here I Give Here is gearing up for its tenth annual Amplify Austin Day, Central Texas’ largest giving event of the year. This year, more than half a dozen Dripping Springs businesses and organizations will take part.

From Wednesday, March 2 through Thursday, March 3, the 24-hour generosity event will provide an easy way for the entire community to give, collectively impacting more than 675 local nonprofits spanning seven central Texas counties, including Hays County. Powered by an online platform available yearround, donors can make a one-time or recurring donation, fundraise on behalf of a cause they love or search for volunteer opportunities and events. Amplify Austin’s platform is also a leading resource for anyone looking for a place to volunteer, build a community or give in Central Texas, according to its website.

“We all know that Austin is changing. We all know that Austin is getting bigger,” said Liz Lambert, hotelier and partner with MML Hospitality. “Let’s not let this fundamental thing, our generosity, change as the city changes.”

Since 2014, Amplify Austin has raised $82 million in unrestricted funds for the nonprofit sector. Many of these funds are the result of matched dollar contributions provided by sponsors, according to its website. The more donations a nonprofit organization receives on Amplify Austin Day, the more extra funds it is awarded.

Given the COVID-19 pandemic and its resulting economic difficulties, giving to nonprofit organizations is more important than ever, said Chrystal Smith, founder of Foster Village, a Dripping Springs nonprofit serving local foster families.

“The added stressors… have had a devastating impact on so many of our vulnerable neighbors who lack the support and resources needed to stay afloat,” said Smith. “We have seen this to be especially true in our child welfare system. Events like Amplify ATX are a great opportunity for us to unite as a community and bridge the many gaps for those in need of help.”

Additional Dripping Springs area organizations participating in Amplify Austin Day this year include the Samaritan Center, Fortis Therapy Center, Chariot, MPower Dyslexia, Save Our Springs Alliance and the Austin Zoo. A full list can be found at amplifyatx.org.
