New mural brings joy to the walls of Dripping Springs High School

When school started last August during a global pandemic and COVID-19 protocols, we weren’t sure what school was going to look like. Delaying students’ return to campus gave us more time to get ready and do a few extras.

We started with painting the walls in our newly relocated classrooms. One thing led to another, and we wanted to do more. So, a mural was decided upon, and in August I started painting The Tiger.

The next thing we knew, our group of students were returning earlier than we first thought. After that, the mural was being painted 10 and 20 minutes at a time. It was finally finished during finals week in the afternoons after students went home.

As much as COVID has caused isolation and as ready as I am to see everyone’s face, smile and be able to hug again, the pandemic can’t hold us back or keep us from accomplishing things for the greater good. It was a privilege to paint.

Some people know my work from painting on cars for football, band, volleyball, soccer, cheer and theatre, or painting Christmas windows in Dripping for 20 years.

I also have a mural at DS Community Library (the children’s area that looks like a stage) and have painted in many homes and on canvas.
