Hays County Master Gardeners annual plant sale set for October

Hays County Master Gardeners’ annual Fall Plant Sale will be online and inperson this year. This year we will feature Texas native and adapted perennials, grasses, shrubs and succulents and, of course, Texas Superstar© plants that will actually thrive in the hot Texas weather, unlike many of the plants found at the big-box stores. Members will be following CDC guidelines.

The sale website http://hcmga.square.site will be activated Oct. 4 through Oct. 12. Online purchases can be picked up at the inperson site locations, which are the Kyle Public Library on Saturday, Oct. 9, and Dripping Springs Farmers Market on Wednesday, Oct. 13. Until then, find more information at http://hayscountymastergardeners.org.

The HCMGA members have been propagating and transplanting in preparation for the sale. They have been putting in much time and love to bring their finest seedlings and transplants from their very own home gardens. The sale will feature xeriscape, natives, perennials, butterfly and hummingbird plants, ground covers and other landscape plants. The proceeds of this sale will benefit continuing education programs and training classes.

Texas Master Gardeners is a volunteer service program designed to bring best in horticultural practices throughout the state, town by town. To become a Texas Master Gardener, a trainee attends 50 hours of instruction conducted through Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, then shares this knowledge by donating 50 hours of volunteer service back to the community.

The touch of Texas Master Gardeners’ green thumbs can be found across the state — in school garden projects, horticultural therapy projects, community gardens and demonstration gardens, designed or staffed by volunteers who also conduct gardening programs and answer gardening questions. Whatever you want to know about gardening, a Master Gardener can help.
