Hays County COVID-19 updates as of June 29

The Hays County Local Health Department on Monday (the time this report was filed) reported 75 new cases of COVID-19. On June 27, the County reported its sixth COVID-related fatality; the individual was a San Marcos woman in her 70s.

Epidemiologist Eric Schneider said the County’s total of lab-confirmed cases is 2,661; of those, 2,233 are considered active. That number includes 25 active cases in Dripping Springs. There have been no fatalities reported in Dripping Springs. The total number of individuals across the county considered recovered is 422. The number of negative tests is 7,080. Schneider is awaiting results on 73 tests. Hays County has had 62 total hospitalizations; 19 people are currently hospitalized.

“The best way to slow down the current surge in cases,” Schneider said, “is for all Hays County residents to work together. We strongly recommend these simple yet effective techniques – wearing masks, staying distanced and washing our hands often – to help our community.”

The county continues to offer FREE testing made possible by the Texas Division of Emergency Man agement (TDEM) and the Texas Army National Guard. People ages five and older can go to San Marcos High School, located at 2601 Rattler Rd in San Marcos for testing. This will be offered Sunday, July 12 to Thursday, July 16, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

These sites will offer walkup testing only, not drivethru, so please be prepared to exit your vehicle. No pre-registration is needed. Remember to wear a mask to the testing site. Results from these testing sites will be sent directly to the individual not the health department. On average, results are sent within seven days of being tested.
