Dripping Springs ISD celebrates School Board Recognition Month

Each January Dripping Springs ISD and districts across the state honor their local school boards during School Board Recognition Month. The theme of this year’s recognition month is “Navigating to Success.” Board service is a volunteer effort with no salary, accepted by only a few in the community. It is a critically important job that requires an election as well as annual mandated training. School board members are the largest group of elected officials in the state, numbering more than 7,000 statewide.

“Public education is critical for a community and for a nation, for that matter.” Board member, Ron Jones said. “One of the many reasons people move to Dripping Springs is due in large part to the education system. Our students perform extraordinarily well not only in their post-secondary endeavors, but life itself.”

Some months are busier for the Board of Trustee members than others, however, the board still manages to meet an estimated 30 hours a month to discuss various issues and topics. They do this on top of managing their regular jobs and families.

“Providing strong leadership from the board perspective to ensure that all students receive an exceptional and personal education is no small feat under the best of circumstances,” Interim Superintendent Brett Springston said. “This past year was full of unexpected circumstances resulting in changes to laws and regulations, as well as our entire approach to public education throughout an ongoing pandemic. These challenges have required adaptability, quick problemsolving, teamwork, and an immeasurable time commitment for all of our Board members. We thank them for handling their rol with compassion, humility and grace!”

Many of the board members have served multiple terms and plan on to continue serving our school.

“In more than 36 years working in public education, I have interacte with many school boards,” Springston said “It did not take long for me in Dripping Springs to understand what a truly knowledgeable, dedicated, and well-informed group is serving this community. Each of these men and women care deeply about this school district and are willing to do what it takes to fulfill their role with a positive outlook and high expectations.”

DSISD thanks its trustees for their tireless effort, dedication and commitment to serve as advocates for our children and public schools.
