Looking back at the "Glory Days"

As many former athletes are prone to do, they get together and relive the days when they played sports in high school. Bruce Springsteen's “Glory Days” alludes to this very phenomenon in his song. Of course, it is not uncommon to have those days stretched in greatness as remembrances do not match the stats or reduced due to the modesty of the individual. Well, Dripping Springs is one of the few schools in the state that has complete stats for most varsity sports for athletes or anyone else to peruse for recall information. DSHS has been involved in sports since around 1915 but most of the information starts in the 1950's. It provides scores, season individual stats, school sport records, season/career Hall of Honor categories, coaching records, championship teams, history and much, much more. Despite the information provided, there are still gaps. It is expected individuals probably kept scrapbooks and can help make the information more complete. Tiger baseball all-district selections

For the Tigers baseball team, the season came and went all too soon — but the awards from that season continue to show up. The team had its usual ups and downs, but when it was all said and done, the Tigers would finish with an 18-13 season with a tie for second place. The Tigers playoff run was short-circuited quickly. That did not keep the quality of the players from being recognized in the district honors being passed around to those who deserved it. The coaches meet just after the district schedule has concluded and vote on the individuals honored. Even though players are selected for a position, the truth is many of the players are called upon to play several positions as the situation calls for. Softball All-District 26-5A Selections

The week after the regular season concludes, the coaches always get together to select all the special honors that comes with a sports season. This, of course, includes the all-district and allacademic teams. Sports conclude for the 2021–2022 school year

All Dripping Springs sports seasons concluded on May 13th as the Lady Tigers softball team was eliminated from the playoffs. On the same day, two track athletes competed at the state track and field meet in Austin. A week earlier, the lone Tiger golfer at the state tournament was playing his final 36 holes. This week was the last hurrah in UIL Class 5A for Dripping Springs before moving on to 6A next year. 05/19/2022 12:00 AM

The Tigers baseball team got a double-dose of what had plagued them throughout the season when they took on the Cedar Park Timberwolves in bi-district action. All season long they have been unable to get a starting pitcher to pitch well in the first couple of innings giving up big leads early. Good teams take advantage and turn them into losses. The major cause is freebie walks making the old adage “you can figure on having a run scored against you for every walk you give up”. Comebacks are also tough when a team does not execute at bats in key situations. Cedar Park had it all as they dealt the Tigers 6-1, 9-1 losses to eliminate them from the playoffs. 05/12/2022 12:00 AM

Lady Tigers move up the ladder with wins

It has been a steady-asshe-goes trip for the Dripping Springs Lady Tigers as they move through the playoff bracket. The games have become the type of games one usually expects from fastpitch softball. Good pitching, good defense and adequate hitting. This was evident as they played Southwest Legacy in the area round. Of course, the main thing is to come out on top and advance. The Lady Tigers squeezed by in the first game 1-0 and then came back to take the 4-1 victory. 05/12/2022 12:00 AM

Perfect game tops series win

Last year at this time, the Lady Tigers were battling the elements and a good-hitting Glenn nine. Torrential-type rains caused the series to be played over five days with DS falling short in moving on. This year it would be a night and day comparison. With practically the same lineup returning, the Lady Tigers were ready to take on Georgetown East View. No repeat as Dripping Springs opened with an 8-2 victory and closed it out with a perfect 4-0 game. 05/05/2022 12:00 AM

Mixed duo nets bronze at State

The Dripping Springs mixed doubles tennis team of Whitney Robbins and Lexian Andrushko took their talents all the way to state. In the quarterfinal round they met up with Rachana Hari and Vincent Rivas of Katy Jordan. The 6-0, 6-1 victory advanced them 05/05/2022 12:00 AM

Two headed to State in track

After competing in the regional track meet at Heroes Stadium in San Antonio, Dripping Springs will be sending two individuals to the State meet held in Austin on May 13. Ava Williamson placed second in the high jump with a leap of 5'6, tying a 20- year old school record. Brant Melton remained undefeated in the 800 to punch his ticket. Only the top two places advance and DS had three others to barely miss out with thirds. 05/05/2022 12:00 AM
