Tigers primed for final district surge

Dripping Springs High School’s Tiger football team has put all phases of the game together and seem ready for the backto- back battle with Westlake and Lake Travis High Schools in a couple of weeks.

The offense, defense and special teams are playing at the highest of levels. Scores to date show the offense is a scoring machine, and the defense keeps opponents out of the endzone. The latest evidence was the 62-13 beatdown of Johnson High School this past weekend.

Games with the Jaguars have been disappointing since they became the newest of the Hays schools. It was believed they would become a natural rival like the days Buda was a school and, later, when consolidation formed Hays High. Being rivals means both schools enter the games with high intensity and sometimes animosity. So far, in football, Johnson has not put up much of a fight in the four games played.

In this year’s Johnson game, the Tigers scored the first nine times they touched the ball. It wasn't until the reserves showed up late in the third that the scoring slowed down. Dripping Springs received the kickoff and moved the ball 75 yards in seven plays. A nineyard pass from Maddox Maher to Jack Tyndall did the trick. Landon Requard kicked the first of his nine extra points of the night. 7-0 10.27. Johnson kicked a 40-yard field goal, but the Tigers answered with an 81yard drive culminated by a one-yard plunge by Elijah Gonzales. 14-3. 1.46.

Johnson had to settle for a 31-yard field goal on the first play of the second quarter. Jack Tyndall scored on runs of 57 and four yards to boost the lead to 28--6. When the next drive stalled, Requard split the uprights with a 31-yard field goal. With 11 seconds left, Johnson scored on a 30-yard pass. Most expected 31-13 to be the halftime score, but Johnson squibbed the kick in an attempt to keep it away from Kyle Koch. Instead, he scooped it up and returned it 80 yards for the score, 38-13.

On their first possession, Jack Tyndall would score his fourth touchdown from 21 yards out, and Maher would follow with a one-yard sneak. 52-13. 4.12. Following a Noah Lambie interception, Nick Tyndall sprinted the final 21 yards. Ian French added the extra point. 0.06. French concluded the scoring with a 30-yard field goal.

On Oct. 6, the 4-1 Tigers will host winless Akins High School for their Homecoming activities. All reserves are expected to see action during this contest. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
