Dripping Springs' Lady Tigers take two

The Dripping Springs HIgh School Lady Tigers basketball team had a prosperous week with wins over Del Valle and Anderson High Schools to complete the first round of district play.

They are presently nestled in sixth place with a 3-5 record — meaning they will have to play some excellent ball against the top five to have a chance at the playoffs. The Lady Tigers do have the fact they have played hard all season and have never let up even when over-matched. What has held them back is their shooting percentages.

In the Anderson game, their inconsistencies in shooting showed. Anderson had beaten them by one point earlier in the year. It started poorly for the Lady Tigers. Anderson would bucket four threes while the Lady Tigers were putting it up with regularity only to have the net evade them. Many were close but as they say “close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades”. The quarter would end with DS trailing 12-4.

All one could do was keep firing away and hope the odds would start to even out. And they did. Rain Collins would enter the game in the second quarter and kept the nets hot with six, sixes on the night. She had all seven as the Lady Tigers still trailed 18-11 at the break. The break provided a new life as they outscored Anderson 21-5 in the third to take command. Chloe Vaughn's basket at the 5.50 mark would give a 21-20 lead they would not relinquish. The final was 42-29.

The Lady Tigers conducted a very similar game with Del Valle, soaring to a 5329 win.

Vs. Anderson: Rains 25, Kenlea Hardin 4, Ella Beatty 3, Caroline Shealy 2, Ainsley Coleman 2, Layne Fields 2, Vaughn 2, Bailey Rogers 2.

Vs. Del Valle: Vaughn 11, Rogers 10, Hardin 9, Jayden Stankard 5, Coleman 5, Collins 4, Beatty 4, Abigail Robinson 3, Kate Newman 2.
