Mary Jane Poirier

April 11, 1931 - October 30, 2021

Mother of 12 children, Mary Jane Poirier died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, October 30, 2021. A devoted mother, accomplished seamstress and talented artist, Mary Jane will be remembered for her sassy humor, her abiding Catholic faith, and her endless quest for the next promising recipe.

Born in San Antonio to Agnes and Herman Herden in 1931, Mary Jane graduated from St. Gerard’s High School and married Lawrence A. “Larry” Poirier in 1950. A resilient Air Force wife, she made a home for her family in two countries and four states, moving 23 times before settling in Dripping Springs. Predeceased by her husband in 2014, Mary Jane stayed in close contact with her brothers and sisters, her 12 children and their spouses, her 31 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren— continuing to sew, sketch and cook while each Sunday occupying her favorite pew at St. Mary Catholic Church.

A rosary for Mary Jane will be prayed on Friday, November 5 at 6 p.m. at Thomason Funeral Home in Wimberley. A second rosary will be recited on Saturday, November 6 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Wimberley at 9:30 a.m., followed by her funeral mass at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Thomason Funeral Home. For more information and to sign the online registry, please visit thomasonfuneralhome.com.
