Tomatoes have always been a summer fav orite at Dripping Springs Farmers Market events at the Triangle.

Tomato Time comes to Farmers Market

The ripping Springs Farmers Market celebrates “Tomato Time,” at the Dripping Springs Farmers Market on June 20 and 27, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Triangle. As we head into the heat of summer, we can take comfort in the knowledge that all those hot, sunny days also bring forth everyone’s favorite summer vegetable – homegrown tomatoes! Whether tossed in a salad, sliced on a bun, or eaten on their own, tomatoes are nature’s reward for surviving the heat of June and July. The ripping Springs Farmers Market celebrates this year’s bumper crop of tomatoes on June 20th and 27th with Tomato Time! – a festival of tomato tasting, testing and savoring. Farmers and growers can bring the best of their garden bounty to enter in four separate tasting competitions, judged by the public in the People’s Choice tents. Last year’s competition saw gardeners ranging in age from eight to eighty competing for ribbons and prizes. The public in invited t taste and judge the entries and vote (with purchased tokens) for their favorites. After exploring the tastes and textures of dozens of tomato varieties, they’ll be able to purchase many of those varieties in our Farmers Market growers’ stalls. As at every week’s market, there will be vendors selling in-season fruit and vegetables, free range and pastured meats, yard eggs, local honey, prepared and ready-to-eat foods and treats (including kettle corn and ice cream). Shoppers will be able to cool down with cold herbal teas, coffee, f uit drinks and local wines, while enjoying entertainment from our market musicians. Laurel Robertson, Dripping Springs Farmers Market Manager, said, “Last year, people really enjoyed learning what their favorite varieties of tomatoes were. They got to see them, tast them and then take their favorites home. Everyone had a lot of fun.” About the Farmers Market The ripping Springs Farmers Market is owned and operated by the City of Dripping Springs. Th Mission of the Market is to provide a community gathering place where local food producers, artisans and community organizations educate and sell directly to consumers.
