Tiger Lacrosse in a lose and “Go Home” scenario

"We are still alive and fortunately for us, the regular season is just for seeding."- Coach Bill Cafferata

The Drip Lacrosse team had its destiny in its hands when they faced the Austin High Maroons last Thursday night. If they won, they would punch their ticket to the Super Regionals and have a bye in the first round of the Central Texas District Playoffs. A loss would send them to Lake Travis to face the Cavilers. The Tigers fell to the Maroons 6-10.

The first half of the game was a back-and-forth battle. It looked like the Tigers would go into halftime up 4-3. Austin High sent in an illegal extra player with :12 on the clock who picked up a lose ball and scored at the buzzer. The extra player was unnoticed by the officials and the Maroon bench stormed the field in celebration before the oversight could be resolved.

Head Coach Bill Cafferata said, “We played a good game against a great team in Austin and were tied through 32 minutes, but games are 48 minutes and they won it down the stretch.” Cafferata went on to say, “We are still alive and fortunately for us, the regular season is just for seeding. We still have the same opportunities as any other team in the playoffs. This has been the most exciting district season in recent memory where there are four teams who can beat each other on any given night. We expect the playoffs to be no different.”

KDRP player of the game Sophomore Alex Schlab was a perfect 14 of 14 at faceoff, had a goal and won the coveted team hammer for gritty play. Five Tigers scored, with Senior Logan Heinchon leading the team with 2 goals.

Results from the knockout game Tuesday night game at Lake Travis were not available at the time the paper when to press. If the Tigers won, they will play Westlake at Dripping Springs High School on Friday Night at 8:15 PM.

Junior Varsity ended its season with another victory. They end their season with a 13-1 record.

The Division 1 and Division 2 Central Texas teams will all play their seeding games at Dripping Springs High Tiger Field April 26-28. D1 plays Friday night and D2 on Saturday. Championship and consolation games will be played on Sunday.
