Tiger Football takes down Kerrville to start season

It was a coach's dream for an opening night football game. Play an opponent who will push you for an entire game, make enough mistakes you can impress on your players they will have to work hard and continue to improve for future games, plus WIN THE GAME. All of that was the case as the Tigers opened their season with a 48-38 decision over the Kerrville Tivy Antlers, plus you could throw in a 20-minute power failure delay for good measure.

If you like offense, this was your game. The two teams combined for over 1100 yards of offense. Tanner Prewit represents the third year the Tigers have had a different QB lead the team and the results have all been the same. Tanner would score three times and pass for another three to account for over 450 yards.

No doubt the Tigers realized they were in a fight from the beginning as Tivy took the opening KO and drove down to kick a 32FG to take an early 3-0 lead. That would hold up for the first quarter. The second quarter would be a seesaw scoring parade. Prewit scored from the three. 7-3. Tivy on a 12-run. 7-10. Prewit hit Parker Alford for an 18 score. 14-10. A 34 run put the Tigers behind again. 17-14. On the very next play, Prewit found Cameron O'Banan down the middle and in between the two defenders. He out-legged the two and completed the 75 yard jaunt to send the Tigers ahead 21-17. On the next series Prewit was separated from the ball on a tackle and it took a perfect bounce into the hands of a Tivy player who had a clear path to the endzone 32 yards later. 21-24. With 21 seconds left in the half, Prewit would plunge in from the four.EP was missed to leave the halftime score at 27-24.

The Tigers got a little space in the third when Prewit scored from the 29 and Jacob Cox from the 5 to push the lead to 41-24 after three. Tivy would not be through. They scored early in the fourth. 41-31. Tiger scoring would come to an end as Prewitt hit Alford for 27 and the score. Another fumble recovery allowed Tivy to get another TD for the final outcome.

The kicking game appears to be in good feet. Desi de la Cruz kept putting the kickoffs in the endzone and O'Banan provided booming punts to keep the opponents backed up for the defense, while Nathan Koch added the EP's.

Another good test will be the game at Hays tomorrow night (Friday). Hays will be fresh off a victory as well and trying to protect home turf. The Tigers have taken the last two from them. Game time is 7:30pm.
