Tiger basketball hits a cold spell

The streaking Tigers basketball team was halted, not by another team, but by mother nature. The Tigers final game with NB Canyon was delayed by a cold spell that has not been duplicated in decades. The icy conditions caused the game to be postponed. It was supposed to be made up the next day but that too was called off. The length of the predicted spell may very well cause the game to be cancelled since it does not affect the district standings. At this time the Tigers have 15-6, 12-3 records. DS has cinched second place and should be playing the third place 25-5A team, Leander. In the meantime, the Tigers did get in a game with Hays Johnson and raced to a 58-38 win.

The Dripping Springs rivalry with Hays ISD goes beyond the founding of the district in 1968 to the days when they were Buda and Kyle. As expected, Johnson would give good effort but lacked the overall talent of the more experienced Tigers.

Johnson opened with a basket and the Tigers would lead the rest of the night. Jayden Guevara continued being in the zone with 13 points in the opening stanza to help the Tigers to a 19-12 advantage. Shots just would not fall in the second for either team as the half ended 25-17.

There is something about opening quarters in the games for the Tigers. They had another scorching quarter in the third as Guevara again led the attack with 10 to help spread the lead to 45-28. DS only needed to control the tempo of the game to cruise in with a win. They would only take five shots in the quarter. That was because Johnson practiced their foul techniques and the Tigers made them pay off with a 9-12 performance and 14-18 on the night. The Tigers took care of the ball well with only two turnovers. Overall they shot 12-25 from two and 6-22 from three.

Vs Johnson: Guevara 25, Aidan Bailey 12, Tony Parra 5, Jackson Friedman 4, Max Stewart 4, Luke Lawyer 4, Felix Gonzalez 2.

Previous game stats missed:

Vs Lehman: Guevara 24, Bailey 9, Friedman 8, Jude Donovan 2, Grayson Jones 2.

Vs Seguin: Guevara 19, Bailey 15, Stewart 12, Friedman 8, Donovan 6, Lawyer 6, Gonzalez 5, Jones 4.

Vs Kerrville: Guevara 20, Parra 11, Bailey 10, Friedman 4, Gonzalez 2, Stewart 2, Donovan 2, Lawyer 2.
