Tennis duo wins regionals, heads to state

Dripping Springs High School tennis players Whitney Robbins and Lexian Andrushko have qualified for the University Interscholastic League State Tournament.

The duo captured the Region IV-5A mixed doubles title on Wednesday, April 14, in San Antonio, following their win at the District 26-5A Championship two weeks prior. Robbins and Andrushko beat four teams to earn their regional title, including the District 25-5A champions from Liberty Hill.

The duo won their first match over Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial 6-2, 6-0 before concluding the first day with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Liberty Hill. Robbins and Andrushko opened day two of the competition with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Mission Sharyland. The championship match pitted two District 26 teams against each other with Robbins and Andrushko defeating Boerne-Champion 7-6, 6-2 for a state berth.

Robbins will be making her second-straight and third overall appearance at the state tournament in doubles.

The Dripping Springs girls’ doubles team of Mia Pleasant and Anna Vollenweider advanced to the regional semifinals with straight-set wins over McAllen Memorial and Mission Veterans Memorial before falling to Liberty Hill to end their run.

The UIL State Tournament will be held April 26–27 in San Antonio.
