Swim teams take regional titles

Good depth is always helpful when competing in a large tourney. Dripping Springs took the most swimmers (29) out of the 20-plus schools competing in the Region V-5A held at College Station and parlayed it into two regional titles, just like at district. DS qualified three individual events and one relay in the girls division and two individuals and one relay in the boys division.

Qualifications for making the state meet are thus: The winner of each event in the eight regionals automatically qualifies. The eight best other regional times in the state (call-ups) make up the 16 qualifiers. The exception is one meter diving where the top two finishers each make it to state. The state meet this year will be held at the Bill Walker Pool and Josh Davis Natatorium at Northeast ISD in San Antonio. The girls will compete on February 19-20 and the boys Feb. 26-27.
