Softball/Baseball All-Centex Selections

For each sport, the Austin American-Statesman cranks out All-Centex teams that encompasses all classifications in the area. Since the Central Texas area is a hotbed for baseball and softball, the selection to one of these teams is a major honor. To make it even tougher, these teams are usually true teams and not a squad as all-district teams can be. Dripping Springs, with both teams making it to the Area round, was honored with three selections overall. In softball it was Camille Corona (first team), Logan Hulon (second team) and baseball John Hoyle (third team).

A junior, Corona, who plays second base, was named to shortstop position. This happens when you have more than one outstanding player at a position. Regardless, Corona had the stats to make it at any position. She batted .577 (64-111) at the leadoff position. It netted 36 runs and 29 rbis. She had eight doubles and nine triples and 22 stolen bases. The outstanding stat is she only struck out twice all season.

Hulon, a junior transfer pitcher, will have another year also to add to her accomplishments. She was 18-6 on the mound with a .63ERA. She had 16 complete games that included three no-hitters and eight shutouts. In 145 innings she gave up 52 hits, 62 walks and struck out 286. Most good pitchers help themselves at the plate as well. She batted .330 (29-88), with 21 rbis, seven doubles and one homerun.

Hoyle, a senior, distinguished himself on the season as a pitcher and shortstop and was named as the Designated Hitter (DH). He batted .337 (33-98) with 24 runs, 17 rbis, two doubles, a triple and 13 stolen bases. On the mound he carved out a 4-1 record with an .87 ERA. He pitched 32.2 innings, giving up 21 hits, 13 walks and 42 strikeouts.
