Lady Tigers Basketball competes in 6A

Article Image Alt Text

Jumping on 6A competition can be a formula for not winning as many games but for good teams the difference in ability is not that much in the two divisions. Dripping Springs took on three more but it had more to do with the Lady Tigers play than the opponents. They would fall to Lake Travis 46-42 and then Austin High took advantage of one quarter to pull away 58-49. Lehman was not a match as the Lady Tigers cruised 64-28.

LT started well and took the first quarter 10-4. The second quarter bode well for DS as they went to the locker room with a slim 19-18 advantage. The Lady Tigers would extend their lead after three to 29-26. However, the Lady Tigers would watch as their lead melted away as LT made their surge.

Austin provided an intense atmosphere in the first half as a four-point lead was the biggest margin in the half. In the first quarter the lead changed hands five times and three ties as DS would end with a 9-7 lead. The formula was the same in the second quarter with Austin having a small 4-0 run to hold a 24-22 lead at the half.

The third quarter belonged to Austin because they simply out-hustled and out-rebounded the Lady Tigers. The last tie occurred at the 6.44 mark and Austin took off building up a 47-36 lead after three. DS would get as close as five (45-50) with under three remaining but no more. Shooting not bad with 14-23 from the two and 6-21 from three.

Lehman, for sure, was not a formidable opponent. Probably a step above what the Lady Tigers will see in district play. So many times teams play down to their opponent and it appeared this was the case for the Lady Tigers. They were careless in taking care of the ball. Officiating was tight and happy feet were a major contributor to the 16 turnovers in the first half. In the first quarter the game was tied three times and Lehman briefly held a 7-6 lead. A 7-0 run broke the final 10-10 tie and propelled DS to a 19-14 lead after one. DS would stretch the advantage to 13 (31-18) before settling in at 31-20 after two. DS opened with a 15-0 run to rule 50-27 after three. Lehman would only add one point to their total in the fourth.
