Lady Tiger Softball hosts tourney

You know you are living right when you schedule a tourney outside in the middle of winter and get three great days to play it. This was the case when the Lady Tigers softball team hosted the Brittany Tuck Memorial tourney on February 27-29.

On the first day the Lady Tigers had to switch first game opponents when Lubbock Cooper could not make it to their first scheduled game. Instead DS opened with Vista Ridge and behind the four-hit pitching of Ashley Rummel, aided by her two homeruns took a 10-2 win. Later DS would take on that Lubbock team and blanked them 10-0 in three innings. However, the change knocked DS out of playing one of the top programs in the state, Barbers Hill.

The next day ended in a split. Behind the big bat of Jayna Reid, the Lady Tigers blew by St. Agnes Academy 9-2. Smithson Valley was able to push across a run in the fifth to take the 6-5 win in the nightcap.

Saturday had a traditional game when DS hooked up with Forney. A lead off double, one-out error and another double produced two runs while Anderson's one-out single, SB,PB and Reid's double resulted in one run and the rest of the game was a pitcher's duel 2-1 loss for the Lady Tigers. Another good game to climax the tourney was with Cedar Park. DS survived three consecutive errors and two walks in the last inning but gave up only two runs and left the bases loaded to win 4-3.
