Lady Tiger Softball Advances

Again, this was a one-game, winner-take-all, playoff which does not leave any room for failure.

It certainly was not the type of game one expects of a fast pitch contest at the regional quarter-finals level. Stats were more associated with slowpitch games as the Dripping Springs Lady Tigers outlasted Kerrville Tivy 15-9. No matter how ugly the game, when you are in the playoffs, the only meaningful result is the W, so you can move on. No doubt a relieved Lady Tiger team is eager to get that taste out of their mouths and ready to take on the regional semifinals opponent Flour Bluff. The game was to be played at St. Mary's in San Antonio but rains made it unplayable and it was moved to Fredericksburg. Check with school website for more details of playoffs.

Again, this was a one-game, winner-take-all, playoff which does not leave any room for failure. There were 27 hits among the teams but a meaningful stat was Tivy's seven errors. An omen of things to come came early and often. The Lady Tigers failed to score in their top half but in their half, Tivy faced Kyndall Womack and startled DS with a quick three-run homerun to make it 3-0. Jayna Reid opened the second with a homerun of her own. Izzy Bermudez would follow with a double and Jessica Gonzales drove her in to make it 2-3 after two.

DS unleashed their bats in the third to score five more runs. Bailey Hudgeons 1B, Bermudez 1B, Mackenzie Pierpoint 2B, Reid 1B, Brooke Rummel 1B all scored. Tivy countered with one in their bottom half with a walk and double and one more in the fourth with a walk, double and single.

In the fifth the Lady Tigers got a little help to score three. Camille Corona singled and would score on an error. Womack walked and later scored on a wild pitch. Reid reached on a fielder's choice and also scored on a wild pitch. Tivy made their biggest push in the sixth to score four on three hits, a walk and error to get within one of the Lady Tigers.

Top of seventh was productive with five more runs. Bermudez singled, Pierpoint singled, Gonzales was HBP, B. Rummel doubled and Corona reached on an error as all scored. Tivy could not counter for the final score.

Hits: Bermudez 4 (2B, 2B), Corona 3, Reid 2 (HR), Pierpoint 2 (2B), B. Rummel 2 (2B), Womack, Hudgeons, Gonzales.

Pitch: Womack: 7IP, 11H, 9R, 5ER, 4K, 3W, 1HR.
