Lady Tiger basketball ups District record to 2-1

The Lady Tigers basketball team took on the Lanier Lady Vikings in the final district match of 2018. The 69-17 win evened the Lady Tigers season record at 10-10 and upped their district record to 2-1. Their final competition in this year will be at the Lake Travis Invitational to be played on December 27-29. The next district game will be LBJ on January 2 (Wednesday). LBJ has dominated the district for decades and could give the Lady Tigers a tough game at LBJ.

Traditionally, it was not expected that Lanier would offer much competition and they did not. Even though they hustled and showed athletic ability, it was evident they were only progressing in basketball skills. However, this scrambling about does cause a more disciplined team problems because they disrupt what one usually does well as they are not where they are expected to be on the court. This showed in the Lady Tigers total of 22 turnovers.

The game was decided early as the Lady Tigers pushed out to a 19-5 lead after one. Lanier would not score again until the fourth as DS shutout Lanier 13-0 in the second and 21-0 in the third. Games like this is a Catch 22 for teams. Everyone on the team gets to play extra minutes for experience but the starters, who work hard to earn that position, have diminished playing time, and even more it seldom is quality time anyway because of the opposition.
