Lady Tiger Basketball places third at Lake Travis Classic Tourney

Ally Beck earns all-tourney medal

Before plunging into the final part of the season of district play, the Lady Tigers took a holiday break by playing in the Lake Travis Classic tourney. Again good experience as they got to play a wide array of area talent. They would end up in a third place finish in the Silver Bracket with Ally Beck earning an all-tourney medal. They had a 2-3 record which gave them a 12-13 season record. In pool play the Lady Tigers dropped a 43-39 decision to Killeen High and a tough 63-60 overtime loss to Katy Tompkins. In the silver bracket they defeated Liberty Hill ??, then lost to Vandegrift 53-41. Hays fell 39-30 in the third place game.

It was back to the district race for the Lady Tigers. Their victories over LBJ and Lockhart shows they will be a force in the district. This upped their district record to 4-1 and season 14-13.

LBJ could not hang with the Lady Tigers as DS pushed ahead in their quest to overtake Crockett in the district race. They kept the pedal to the metal as the Lady Tigers pulled away in the second half for a 73-39 victory. The first quarter ended 19-10 and lost a little ground by half 21-14. The third was a crusher, outscoring LBJ 21-4 and more of the same in the fourth.

Lockhart would provide a couple of players that could handle the ball well and were fearless to the basket. However, free throw points (13) would not be enough to keep them in the game as the Lady Tigers cruised to a 65-35 triumph. Scoring was a little slow in the first quarter as DS would achieve a 6-0 lead at the four-minute mark. The Lady Lions would cut it to 8-4 but five quick points by Ally Beck would help push the score to 15-4 after one.

DS would go to their long range plan, hitting 4 of 10, Teagan Huslig (2), Grace Fowler and Beck, to finish with an 11-0 run to go to the lockerroom leading 31-14. Kennedy Donovan added offense to her game in the second half as she hit two threes to aid the third quarter effort that resulted in another 10-0 run at the end and a 45-26 lead. Scoring did not slow down as reserves got to see some extended time in the fourth.

The Lady Tigers looked good on offense as they were patient to take quality shots at appropriate times. They hit 16-29 from the two, 9-24 from three and 6-6 from the line. Sixteen turnovers always leave room for improvement.
