Lady Tiger Basketball hits 20 game win mark

The Lady Tigers Varsity Basketball reached the coveted 20-win mark in their season with a 67-12 win over Austin LBJ. In the other game of the week DS had disposed of Lanier 63-32. Only a visit to Lockhart last Tuesday night provided an imaginable roadblock to their first district championship in a while. They are 10-1 in district, 20-13 on the season. The final home game is tomorrow (Friday) night with McCallum and the Lady Tigers will finish up at Reagan Tuesday night. Then it is on to the playoffs where being the district champion gives one a seemingly better draw in this bi-district pairing. First plays fourth. In district 26-5A Kerrville (13-0, 28-1), SA Veteran Memorial (12-1, 25-5) and Boerne Champion (10-3, 22-7) hold down the top three slots. The Lady Tigers likely opponent appears to be SA Wagner (8-5, 12-11). The lack of quality district games for intensity could present a problem.

Speaking of intensity, it seems to follow the same pattern as it did with Lanier and LBJ. One comes out ready to play and before you know it, the game is a blowout and you have to work hard not to muddle through the rest of the game. Everyone gets to play and hard to keep a cohesive effort going. No pressure to keep intensity because you are having success whatever you do.

It was 16-3 after one with Lanier. Pace slowed a little in the second as the half ended 27-10. Starters back in to begin the third and 22 more points are scored to make it 49-21.

There was no lack of shot attempts in the LBJ game. In fact the Lady Tigers probably had to ice down their arms following the contest after putting up 68 shots. They were 20-41 from two and 6-27 from three. Certainly the percentage could have been higher because they were getting good looks.

The Lady Tigers went on a 15-0 run in the first and a basket with 28 seconds averted the shutout for LBJ. LBJ got the suspense over with early as they scored first before DS finished with an 18-0 run to make it 33-4 at the break. LBJ managed to double their output per quarter in the second half while the Lady Tigers poured in 13 and 21.
