Lacrosse Team ranked eighth in preseason
The Dripping Springs Tiger Lacrosse team starts the reason right where it left off. The Tigers clawed their way into the Final 8 in the Division 1 Texas State Championship last year and find themselves ranked #8 in the preseason polls according to Texas Lacrosse News. The only Central Texas teams ranked higher are Westlake (#5) and Lake Travis (#7).
The 2019 squad is anchored with five seniors, and nine returning starters from last year. Defenseman Giles Andrews will lead the defense his senior season before he moves on to Cleveland State to play at the highest level of college lacrosse. Goalie Connor Mogen, will be in the pipes again this season making him the starting goalie for the 3 straight season. Mogen will leave Dripping Springs as the winningest goalie in school history. Logan Heinchon, a Illinois Wesleyan commit, brings speed, grit and leadership to the midfield. High expectations for All-District Jakob Joy and Honorable Mention Faceoff Specialist Alex Schlab. Cristian Reno is looking to top his 25 goals and 25 assists in 2018.
Captains this year are Mogen, Heinchon, Joy and Charles Pouland.
Head Coach Bill Caferata returns at the helm as the second most tenured coach in Central Texas. The division saw a massive coaching carrousel as West Lake, Lake Travis, Bowie, Round Rock, and Cedar Park made coaching changes.
The Tigers officially kickoff their season at home under the Friday Night Lights against Anderson, on February 15, at 8:15PM. Lacrosse Blogger @STBlax had this to say, “I always think you can get a good read on a team from their coach. This year Cafferata really stepped up their strength of schedule, which tells me he thinks they are ready for more and looking to compete at a higher level.”
