Lacrosse returns after tough road trip

Everyone knew the schedule the Dripping Springs Lacrosse team assembled would be a gauntlet. Critics said, “you can really tell a team’s confidence by the teams they choose to play, and they really stepped it up this year.” The Tigers faced four-time State Champions Episcopal School of Dallas (ESD) on Saturday, currently ranked number two in the State. Then played 10th ranked Coppell on Sunday.

When asked about the tough schedule the Tigers have played to date, Junior Captain Charlie Pouland said, “I think this stretch has been a good learning experience and an opportunity to for us to not only improve but build our game and team culture in prep for our upcoming district games.”

The Eagles of ESD are not a new foe for the Tigers. The two teams met in the quarter finals of the State Playoffs last year. It was an easy win for ESD and their senior heavy roster. The Tigers had revenge on their minds on Saturday but knew the 2019 Eagles were touted as the best defense in the Texas. ESD cruised to a 19-7 win. Drip made some halftime adjustments and lost the second half 6-7. Pouland hit the back of the net five times and junior Cristian Reno added two goals.

Drip was looking to bounce back against the 10th ranked Coppell Cowboys on Sunday but got jumped on early and could not crawl their way back into the contest. They ended up losing 8-15. Senior captain Connor Mogen had 12 saves in goal. The Tigers continued to spread the scoring out—goals came from five different players. Nic Austin and Pouland had 2 each. Reno had 4 assists.

Junior Varsity kept their record spotless with a 9-3 win over Lake Travis on Thursday.

The 3-3 Tigers play district foe Vandergrift at home on Friday night. Faceoff is at 8:15PM. Admission is free. Tune into KDRP to hear play-by-play with Kenny and Kirby Wottrich.
