Heart wrench loss to Champion in Tennis

Closes door to state tourney
Article Image Alt Text

Heartbreak cannot come in a more heart wrenching way than the one experienced by the Dripping Springs team tennis squad at the quarter-final level. For the past three years, the Tigers have been turned back from reaching the state tourney in the regional finals by Alamo Heights, a former district member. The Tigers felt good about making the fourth time the charm. After breezing through district, bi-district and area matches, the Tigers reached the quarter-finals against another old district foe in the form of Boerne Champion. Regardless of how each player is seeded in this type of play, all matches are very important as every point matters. It was the case as it went down to the final match as Champion held off the Tigers 10-9 to end their season and leave the door locked to the state tourney for another year.

Vs Boerne Champion: Girls singles: Tallulah Andrushko 6-1, 6-2; Whitney Robbins 6-1, 6-1; Ashley Cruz-Moore 3-6, 0-6; Katherine Farber 0-6, 1-6; Kalea Caldwell 2-6, 3-6; Gracie Johnson 0-6, 6-2. Girls doubles: Andrushko/Cruz-Moore 6-3, 6-4; Farber/Johnson 4-6, 2-6; Caldwell/Micki Leibow 6-3, 5-7, 6-10. Mixed doubles: Robbins/Owen Tuohy 6-1, 6-3. Boys singles: Henry Lovelace 6-4, 2-6, 5-10; Lexian Andrushko 7-5, 6-4; Thane Johannsen 6-1, 6-0; Jeff Walker 6-4, 6-4; Matt McBurney 7-5, 2-6, 10-2; Tuohy 6-4, 5-7, 6-10. Boys doubles: Lovelace/Andrushko 0-6, 1-6; T. Johannsen/McBurney 6-1, 7-5; Walker/Jaxson Hataway 6-7, 3-6.
