DSHS Tigers draw even in district

After the first half of the Dripping Springs High School’s basketball season, the Tigers have managed to break even at 4-4 with a 58-36 win over Austin High School.

This last win put them in a dead heat for the coveted final playoff berth with Bowie High School. The showdown was last Tuesday, Jan. 10, and will go a long way to deciding the playoff fate for both schools.

The Austin High game was a fast-paced match all night with much action that led to plenty of turnovers on both sides, plus numerous charge calls going in for layups. The difference in the game ended up being the fast start out of the gate with accuracy from the three-point zone. The Tigers could not miss them in the first quarter as they pushed out to a 20-1 advantage before ending the quarter 26-5 behind eight three-pointers.

Austin started to find their scoring prowess the rest of the way, but the damage had already been done, and they could not make up the difference. It was 43-21 at the break. Scoring slowed during the second half as the third ended 55-24.

The next four games will be very critical to the Tigers. Friday, Jan. 20, they will face Johnson High School and the next Friday, Jan. 27, they will face Westlake High School. Both are at home and need good crowds for maximum effort. The next two Tuesdays (Jan. 17 and 24) will find the Tigers at Austin’s Akins High School and Lake Travis High School.

Scoring: Jaxon Reagan 15, Luke Spozio 8, Cade Brunson 7, Kooper Brown 6, Josh Oliphant 5, Davis Budge 5, Judson Loe 5, Austin Moore 3, Zach Fleming 3, Maddox Bloomgren 1.
