Lady Tigers Basketball Results

The basketball season, like all others, have had to deal with some major changes to their season structure due to COVID 19. This year there will be no tournaments and the total games played during the season is 27. Everyone scrambled to get their new schedules set up and right off the bat, the Lady Tigers had to endure a blip. They were set to host Austin Akins to start their season off and one week before, they informed DS they had scheduled two games on that night and would not be able to honor their commitment. Fortunately, Coach Norris was able to find Rouse available and played. Rouse proved to be a formidable opponent and they fell 54-37.

It took a little while for both teams to warm up in the scoring department as DS led 8-7 after one. A Lady Tiger scoring drought gave Rouse a substantial lead at the half 25-13. The second half was more competitive as Rouse held sway 37-26 after three.

DS scorers: Corbyn Davis 13, Ally Beck 8, Jordan Cox 4, Lilee McGinnis 3, Ashleigh Askamit 3, Teagan Huslig 3, Ella Smith 2, Chloe Fredenburg 1. Assts: Beck 3, Davis 2, Huslig. Rebs: Huslig 6, Cox 5, Davis 4, Kiera O'Connor 3, Fredenburg 2, Brynn Fields 2, McGinnis, Askamit, Beck, Hayden Ely. Stls: Fredenburg 4, McGinnis, Askamit, Beck, Smith.

Lady Tigers Volleyball Results

In their rematch with Alamo Heights, the 3-0 result was still the same. That loss put them in third place as they lost both matches to Canyon and Alamo Heights. The Lady Tigers rebounded against SA Veteran Memorial in a sweep and now are looking forward to a rematch down the playoff trail and atone for the losses. If the standings in the other district remain as is, DS will be matched up with Rouse in the Bi-district round. Still three matches left to play in district.

DS Varsity Football Results

Football is struggling to finish the season due to Covid 19. Last week, the Tigers had a forfeit win over San Antonio McCollom and then found out they would also get forfeits from this week's opponent, SA Veterans Memorial and the following week's SA Harlandale. So when one gets a chance to play a game, they have to be thankful.

After a two-week layoff, the Tigers took the field to play the Lehman Lobos. The great thing was the Tigers did not miss a beat after their last fine performance against NB Canyon. In fact there were several players that became involved and turned in really good performances and will only get better as they get more games under their belts. Unless Coach Zimmerman can find an opponent, the Tigers will have another twoweek layoff and hopefully they can finish with Hays Johnson and Seguin. Other than the Tigers, the district playoff qualifiers will be a mystery because of all the forfeits that have been and are still to come.

Lehman in preseason polls appeared to be playoff material. In their history, they have not had a winning season, but the fact they dropped back to 5A gave them renewed hope. However, it was soon evident that Lehman would not be equal to the task of staying with the Tigers and the end result showed in the 58-7 victory. The Lobos did not get their initial first down until the second quarter. They would have to punt seven times, had five turnovers and could not stop the Tigers well-oiled offense.

Sophomore QB, Austin Novosad, continues to accurately toss the ball around with sure-fingered receivers and totaled seven TD passes. One of the things the Tigers do in running their jet sweep is to have the QB toss the ball up and let the receiver grab the ball out of the air rather than a handoff to make that play a pass and not a run. This certainly makes pass completions very easy.

The Tigers scored first on a 22 pass to Nolan Lawyer, who would have a breakout 3-TD night. Coleman Chapman added the point to make it 7-0 early. Next trip was a 7-yard pass to Cameron O'Banan to make it 13-0 after one. Another 9-yarder to O'Banan extended the lead 20-0. To change it up Preston Alford would power it in from the four. 27-0. Then it was back to Lawyer for TD's of 8 & 40. On the final play of the second quarter, O'Banan hauled it in from seven for the 48-0 halftime lead.

Lehman was able to hit a perfect strike for their only score in the third quarter. Alford would counter with a well-thrown swing pass reception and a sprint of 37 yards. The final points came on a 46 yard FG by Chapman.
