District 26-5A Cross Country Meet Results

The new district alignment for Dripping Springs took away so many of their gimme titles from the past two years as competition definitely took a step up. Earned titles are so much more rewarding. Cross country was one of those sports. Usually you can find three top ten teams from a region but in this case DS found themselves in a district with that number, including the No. 1 team in Boerne Champion. Dripping Springs has always had a state-ranked program and never shied away from competition and this was no different. It was a three-team battle with New Braunfels Canyon for the District 26-5A title. Unfortunately, in the year of COVID, the rules were changed to allow only two teams to advance, leaving one very good team out of luck. Boerne Champion upheld their ranking by winning all four divisions. The Lady Tigers placed second and advanced, while the Tigers placed third, but had Caleb Lopez advancing as a reward for finishing in the top ten. The meet was held at Starcke Park in Seguin.

The Regional meet will be held next Monday at the Texas A&M course in Corpus Christi.

Swim Team Results

With the athletic season being a little mixed up this year, the swim season slipped up on this writer. The season has been well underway since September. The schedule looks much different from other years due to the Covid rules. The competition will be in triangle and dual meets. The first two meets came in a triangular with Lake Travis and Hays, followed by a dual meet with Austin High. Although there were more people in each event, due to space constraints, only the top four finishers for Dripping Springs will be recognized.

Coach Andrea McCarthy reported their swim program got a major boost this year when Coach Michael Hoskovec signed on. He had a successful 17-year career at Houston Stratford.
