Dripping Springs Sports results

Varsity Boys Basketball Results

Schedules have been hard to keep this season for the Tigers as district games have to be made up at some point. Dripping Springs is in the midst of a four-game winning streak as they have played four games in seven days. Jayden Guevara and Aidan Bailey have had the hot hands of that streak. Seguin fell 44-37, followed by Kerrville Tivy 65-58, Hays Johnson 54-40 and Lehman 47-26.

A makeup game with Seguin during the holidays was ragged at best. However, teams like the Tigers are not worrying about style points, only wins.

Over the space of the game, the Tigers were 8-25 from the two and 4-12 from three. Fortunately, much better at the line (16-24).

A quick three-point play by Tony Parra gave the Tigers their first lead. Seguin would go on a 6-0 run to take their only lead of the night (6-3) with four minutes left. DS finished the quarter with a 10-0 run, including back-to-back threes by Jayden Guevara and Max Stewart for a 13-6 lead after one.

The second proved to be a quarter you would not write home about. DS had four of their seven turnovers before they even got a shot off. DS scored the first six and Seguin the next seven for a 19-13 advantage at the break.

DS ended the third with their biggest margin since early in the first (31-20). With six minutes remaining DS tied their biggest lead (36-23). Seguin kept firing away hitting four threes to get the score down to 41-37 with two minutes remaining. It stayed that way until Seguin had to start fouling.

Lehman, like many of the second division teams, looked like they just might be in the game early on but then cannot last much longer than a quarter. They hit two quick threes but the Tigers calmly covered the points and led after one 12-11. The Lobos continued to battle, but found themselves down 22-16 at the break. The second half belonged to the Tigers as they extended their lead after three 35-21.

Varsity Girls Basketball Results

It is like treading water when trying to play the basketball schedule. This past week the Lady Tigers were able to get a regularlyscheduled game in with Kerrville, and a makeup game with Lehman. However, the home game with Hays Johnson had to be postponed. It will be played January 18th with the game starting at 3:00PM.

In the past couple of seasons, Kerrville teams have been very strong making good deep runs in the playoffs. The Tivy team did not mind getting down and dirty as they played a physical brand of ball. It was body against body and much grabbing and pushing. The game was really a setback to offensive basketball, much like games in the 50's as the Lady Tigers held on for a 34-28 victory.

It was DS trailing 8-7 after one. DS was able to match their seven in the second and held Tivy to three as the Lady Tigers took a 14-11 advantage to the break. There would be six lead changes in the first half of the third as Caroline Gamble hit a pair of baskets to have DS trail by 19-18. Then a barrage of threes by Corbyn Davis (3) and Ally Beck pushed the lead out to 30-22 after three. Scoring stalled for DS as Tivy would get to 30-28 with 1.18 left in the game. Tivy had to really start fouling and the Lady Tigers were able to make four of 9 for the final score.

The next night they played the makeup game with Lehman. DS jumped out to 4-0 lead but Lehman would comeback for an 8-7 lead. That would be their last hurrah as the Lady Tigers pulled away to command a 17-11 margin after one. The first score in the second came at 4.30. Finally DS's barrage of three attempts paid off with three such baskets and a basket with four seconds remaining to make it 28-14 at the half.

It was another good third quarter as DS put up 16 attempts that resulted in 17 points to extend their lead to 45-22. Substitution was liberal as all players saw playing time with shooting accuracy took a hit in a 3-18 effort as the final score read 51-36. On the night DS hit 13-28 from the two range and 7-29 from three. In the meantime they committed 15 turnovers.

Vs Tivy: Davis 11, Beck 9, Gamble 6, Ella Smith 5, Jordan Cox 2, Lilee McGinnis 1.

Vs Lehman: Gamble 14, Davis 10, Beck 8, McGinnis 5, Ashleigh Aksamit 3, Cox 3, Makynna Hubbard 2, Ambria Rupp 2.
