Varsity Cross Country Results

The Dripping Springs cross country team competed in the Leo Manzano Marble Falls Mustang Invitational. Again both teams acquitted themselves quite well. The Lady Tigers won their division and the Tigers placed third. Once more, the result of this meet shows the district meet will be a highly competitive event. Varsity Football Results

It was “ditto” again this week as the Tigers played the Lockhart Lions. Just like last week “Did not see this game coming”. Again the expectations were a victory over a pretty good Lockhart team, but not a scoring frenzy to the tune of a 76-41 landslide win over the Lions. Big scoring plays abounded on both sides. Spectators were treated to football play in the first half, even though the Tigers held a 34-7 advantage at the half. One began to think that many of the reserves would get to see considerable action in the second half. Instead, it seemed there had been an agreement by the coaches to leave their defenses in the locker room and run demonstration plays. Neither team had any trouble negotiating the path to the end zone as they swapped scores the entire half while setting many school records along the way.

Cameron O'Banan was definitely on his game as he caught 11 passes that accounted for 284 yards and five TD's. The running backs also ran loose as the team amassed 850 yards of total offense.

The first quarter saw both teams holding onto the ball with sustained drives. Lockhart would be forced to punt their first two possessions and the Tigers one. On their first possession, the Tigers drove the ball 93 yards in seven plays and two major penalties as Preston Alford would sprint in for the final 15. Coleman Chapman would add the PAT, which was the first of ten on the night, as the quarter would end 7-0.

On the next possession, Alford would pop 76 yards before being caught at the four. Two plays later he powered in from the one. 14-0. Short work on the next time up as a three-play, 80 drive was culminated by a 77 pass and run score by O'Banan from Austin Novosad. 20-0. Next up was a two-play drive. A Novosad to Noah Lawyer negotiated the first 48 yards and O'Banan the next nine. 27-0. After the Tigers were forced to punt, Lockhart finally got on the scoreboard. 27-7. One minute was enough for the Tigers. Novosad passed the team the 79 yards by hitting O'Banan and Alford before O'Banan took it the final 28 to go in at half with their lead.

It was off to the races in the second half. Alford took it to the house from 64 yards out on the first play. The Tigers picked off a fumble on the KO and O'Banan snared the next pass for an 11-yard TD. Two plays, two scores. 48-7. All of a sudden Lockhart came alive and scored on their next five possessions to hang around. The Tigers never lost ground as Hunter Miller would score long distance on runs of 59, 49 and 48, while O'Banan collected another 55 pass for a score.

O'Banan's night got him in the record books in four areas. His receiving yards and five TD receptions were school records and his 11 catches and 5 TD's tied the records. The team also came in for their share as well. The 76 points, 850 yards total offense, plus the 28 points scored in the third quarter and 11 TD's were new team records as well. The Tigers missed the combined points by a point.

As a reminder, if you are one that is interested in the school records in any sport, then you need to check the DS Athletic website and click on the title DSHS Athletic Records and it will open you up to all the game scores, sport records, individual stats, the history of each sport and more. Updates to all the records and stats are not made until that sport season has concluded each year.
