Dripping Springs' Lady Tigers in a tight spot

As the first half of district ends for the Dripping Springs High School Lady Tigers basketball, they find themselves in a difficult place to make the playoffs.

They are in fifth place with a 4-4 record, but they have four teams ahead of them with a 6-2 or better record. The one the Lady Tigers let get away was a two-point loss to Bowie High School — similar to their counterparts on the DSHS Tigers team. They will need to win a couple of more in the second half of the season to make it.

The Lady Tigers’ last two losses were at the hands of Lake Travis High School and Westlake High School.

Coach Jordan Batson applauded his squad for their effort but conceded an inability to sustain the effort for a complete game. He cited the 7-7 tie with Lake Travis after one quarter before their scoring drought in the other three — to ultimately fall 24-46. Westlake had fallen behind 9-2 after one quarter, but they scorched the nets for a 19-55 victory.

Meanwhile, Akins High School felt the brunt of a good effort by the Lady Tigers, which produced a 74-33 win. There were many moments where the team was ready to compete with anyone. Sharp passes to the open person led to some easy baskets while the rebounders, led by Jordan Cox, came up with key rebounds. Again, these were brief moments that would be great to sustain. As it turned out, Linan Scott and Azaria Arnold scored all the points in the 2713 first half. More got into the scoring action in the second half as the game ended 49-28.
