Dripping Springs' Lady Tigers off to a fast start

The Dripping Springs High School Lady Tigers have gotten off to the kind of start expected of them.

The Lady Tigers softball team was able to muscle their way to a 5-1 record in the Comal tourney and then add an opening 5-0 win over Austin High School in district play. With the Brittany Tuck tourney looming this past weekend, the Lady Tigers are 7-1 on the season and looking for more wins.

At the Comal tourney, Dripping Springs started off with a rematch with New Braunfels High School. An eight-run fourth quarter was key to the 12-9 win. Erika Kanetzky and Haiden Anderson headed up the 14-hit attack with three apiece. Elianna Amato and Jai-Lynn Flores added two each. H. Anderson and Flores kicked in a homerun each. Pitch: H. Anderson 4IP, 6H, 8R, 4ER, 7W, 3K. Flores tossed the final inning.

Smithson Valley High School fell next, 0-9 against the DSHS team. H. Anderson had three of the 12 hits. Jordan Cox, Kate Tressler and Flores had two. Taylor Anderson and Cox homered. Cox pitched a complete game: 5IP, 3H, 4W, 7K.

Plano West High School was the next to fall with Dripping Springs winning 9-2. Leading hitters were T. Anderson, Linan Scott, H. Anderson, Flores. H. Anderson had another homer. Pitch: Flores 6IP, 6H, 2R, 1ER, 2W, 5K.

Allen High School was blanked 10-0. Kanetzky, Cox, Flores and Keira Hector had two of the 13 hits. Pitch: H. Anderson 6IP, 4H, 1W, 1K.

Switching things up, Boerne High School jumped off to a 5-0 lead, and the Lady Tigers could not make up the difference in the 8-6 loss. T. Anderson had two of the eight hits. Hector, Scott and Tressler added doubles. Pitch: Cox 2.1IP, 5H, 6R, 4ER, 1W, 3K. Flores: 3.2IP, 2H, 2R, 1ER, 1W, 1K.

Smithson Valley did not fare any better the second time around, dropping a 2-8 decision as a four-run first quarter got the Lady Tigers off on the right foot. H. Anderson pitched the complete game.

The Austin High School game may have been a little tougher than imagined. Cox pitched a seven-inning gem, giving up two hits, walking one and striking out 10. Flores got two of the five hits while T. Anderson scored twice and stole three bases.
