Dripping Springs lacrosse hosts Dallas teams

Dripping Springs High School Lacrosse hosted two games this past weekend.

Keller and Allen High Schools each made the trip down from Dallas for Saturday and Sunday games, respectively. Keller brought a 5-2 record into the game with a young offense and one of the top faceoff specialists in the state.

Less than two minutes into the game, Kooper Brown got things started for Dripping Springs when Aiden Kane found him for a step down shot. He followed that up a minute later with his second goal of the game. The Keller Indians would respond with two goals to knot it up before Brady Taylor found a waiting Kyle Parker on the crease. Brown would then find Connor Krystof, who extended the lead for the Tigers. Keller scored on a first-quarter buzzer beater to end the first down 3-4.

Kane took control in the second quarter. He started by pulling a double team and finding Parker open again on the crease for a goal. After a couple Keller goals, Kane followed that with a drive that pulled another double team, but his jump shot found the net. Kane drove from X and found Taylor who dodged and scored, extending the Dripping Springs lead to 7-5 at the half. Early in the third period, Brown found Walker Wright, who ripped a goal from 17 yards out. Keller scored twice more before Parker repaid Kane with an assist who snuck past a defender for 9-7 lead after three quarters. Midway through the fourth, the momentum shifted in favor of the Indians. Keller rattled off four straight goals to close out the game and go home with the 11-9 victory.

Owen Rhodes received the hammer for his performance on faceoffs, where he won 13 of 23 and scooped up 10 ground balls. Brown and Parker each snagged three ground balls and forced a turnover each. Kaiden Grupp registered eight saves in the first half of the game.

On Sunday, March 26, the Drip Wolfpack celebrated their 12 seniors with Senior Day. They hosted Allen High School, who was coming in looking to rebound from a loss to Austin High School on Saturday. Parker started things off for Drip, finding a loose ball on the crease and punching it in. After Allen answered, Grupp spotted Wright crossing midfield, made the Tom Brady pass, and Wright took it the distance for the goal, giving Drip the 2-1 lead after one period. The second quarter was all Allen Eagles with six unanswered goals. None of the 10 Dripping Springs shots was able to find the net. Playing from behind, Krystof found Parker for his second goal of the game, and Lucas Willingham found Wright for his second goal. Drip went to the fourth trailing 4-7. Allen held them off, scoring three goals. Vaughan Segers picked up a ball at mid-field and took it all the way to the goal for the final home score of the day. In the end, Drip Lacrosse fell 5-10 to the visiting Allen Eagles. Jonah Friedman, Greyson Jones, Krystof and Wright each picked up a couple ground balls, and Wright forced a couple turnovers to lead the team. Grupp recorded nine saves on the day in goal, and Deacon Ivey took home the hammer for his hustle and spirited play.

The team will travel to Houston April 1–2 to play The Woodlands and Cypress Woods High Schools.
