Cross Country meet results

The long-awaited cross country season finally got underway as Dripping Springs hosted their annual meet. Originally, it was to be held at the Dripping Springs Ranch Park. However, the heavy rains in the previous week had rendered the course too rain-soaked to safely use. After having waited a month to get their season started, the three teams wanted to have some competition and decided to compromise the situation. Although not ideal for the sport, Dripping Springs, Hays High and Hays Johnson agreed to hold the meet on the high school track. This did not allow the same type of race to get in their miles but it was competition to get the season started. It did skew the times to be faster than would be the usual. Here are the results of the Tigers teams:

Lady Tigers Volleyball Results

Like all the other sports, the Dripping Springs volleyball team had to postpone the start of their season by a month and then had to adhere to some changes in their schedule. Normally by this time, the team would have entered three major tournaments around the state to get a taste of some very good 5A-6A teams and quickly play 25-30 games. In the past two years, the tourneys were needed because the district was so weak this would be the only time they would play good teams until the playoffs. This year, the tourneys were cut from the schedule and were needed because this year's district should be a little stronger. So, they have scheduled five strong area programs and will jump right into the 16-game district schedule. Even though the program continues to be strong and primed to do well again this season, they were able to add a talented transfer from Lake Travis. Not an unusual situation anymore. MacKenzie Plante, a 6'0 sophomore, moved from Lake Travis where she was a key participant in the Lady Cavaliers district championship team last year as a freshman. She did not take long to step right in and start her contributions to the team.

The first week of action saw the Lady Tigers end up with a 3-1 record as they played four of the top area 6A teams. State-ranked Round Rock Westwood was the only team that could take DS down, but Hays High took the Lady Tigers to the limit in five games. They played Georgetown last Tuesday. District play will open at home against Hays Johnson on Friday night.
