Cross Country competed in McNeil Invitational

All the Dripping Springs Cross Country teams went to Round Rock to compete in the McNeil Invitation meet. Must have been no other cross country meets around because it was one of the most unbelievably largest meets this writer has heard of. Dripping Springs competed in the Gold, 5A varsity and JV girls divisions. The JV boys event was cancelled due to lightning. Over 680 participants from eighty-one full teams, plus competed in the boys gold and 595 from 73 plus teams in the girls gold. The mind-boggling fact is they all ran together in each division. What a picture to watch or envision 1360 legs churning from the start line and finish three miles later. It had to be a game of survival. Woe would be to the runner that fell. Probably had to send out search parties to retrieve stragglers. Only those that could get to the front had much of a chance to finish well.

As you can guess, the competition was very tough. In the Boys Gold division, the Tigers finished 22ndout of the 81 teams with 780 points. The Lady Tigers placed twelfth in the Gold division with 487 among the 73 teams. The Lady Tigers finished 16thamong 28 teams with 403 points in the 5A girls division. The Tigers finished 26thin the 5A boys division with 663 points among 41 teams. In the girls JV division, the Lady Tigers finished 18thamong the 50 teams with 580 points.
